Pet Portraiture

My goal is to capture your pet's unique personality, whether the shots are formal posed shots or casual shots taken throughout your home. I will work with you personally to make sure the portrait session meets your hopes and expectations.

Typically, when I come over we'll spend a little time chatting about your ideas. I'll take some time to get to know your pet and make sure he/she feels comfortable and relaxed around me. It takes me about 10-15 minutes to set up my equipment. Once I start photographing your pet, the session typically lasts about an hour. I try not to make sessions last so long that they overwhelm your pet. During the session, you will be actively involved in handling your pet. Pets are typically most responsive to their owner's voice and touch, so I will rely greatly on your assistance during the photo shoot.

Frequently Asked Questions About Pet Portraits

What if my pet isn't fully trained and I'm worried he won't behave for portraits?

Most pets, even ones with lots of energy and short attention spans, can be photographed beautifully. Often, the best shots come from moments where your pet isn't sitting still and fully focused on posing.

Where do portrait sessions take place?

I think the best place to photograph pets is in their own home. Animals are always more confident and relaxed in familiar surroundings. My studio is completely portable. I'll just need a small area to set up my lights and backdrop. If you prefer to shoot outdoors in your yard or in a park, that's fine too.
Note: I will need access to a grounded electrical source (three pronged outlet)

Can I include toy, props or outfits in the session?

Absolutely, a favorite toy, a soft dog bed or a cozy sweater can add a lot of warmth and personality to your pet portraits.

Can I include multiple pets in one session?

Yes – multiple pet sessions are a lot of fun! I usually like to photograph each pet individually first, and then do group shots. There is an extra pet fee of $25.00, as multiple pet sessions usually take longer to set-up and shoot.
